SHAREWARE INFORMATION:
The shareware version of BUCKFILE is complete and unprotected. It
contains all of the $2 wantfiles. These should allow you to give the
program a workout to decide if it is of use to you. The rest of the
wantfiles (about 30 more) which handle $1, $2, $5, $10, and $20 dollar
currency files come with registration. While the program can generate
these, it will require about 100 hours of work to duplicate my efforts.
This means that by not paying the registration fee, you are earning
about $0.33/hour for your time.
If you find this Currency Inventory Program to be of value to
you, you are asked to pay its author $35.00. This documentation
is available in pamphlet form for an additional $5.00. Send your money
to:
John R. Duchek
Duchek Computer Services
P. O. Box 25006
St. Louis, MO 63125
(314)-544-1843
For this $35.00 you become a registered user. This also enables
me to send you information on updates or improvements in the software.
In addition your contribution entitles you to the most current version
of the software. You are free to make copies of the shareware version
of the program (but not of the registered version). You are encouraged
to share the shareware version with friends, bulletin boards and
software, Coin, or Currency collecting clubs. Normal shareware
distributors can charge a reasonable fee for their disk copying and
distribution services (up to $5.00). If you have been using BUCKFILE
for over 2 months, honesty requires that you register your copy.
The registration form is at the end of this document.
USER SUPPORT
I will correspond with registered users of the program to help
with any difficulties they have running the program. Calls to discuss
any problems are at the user's expense. I am generally available
between 7 P.M. and 10 P.M. Central Time and would appreciate that calls
be limited to these hours. PLEASE DO NOT CALL if you are not
registered.
If you are unregistered and have a question or comment, feel free
to send a letter to the P.O. Box listed above. If you wish a reply
please send a self-addressed stamped envelope. Alternatively, leave a
message on GEnie to J.DUCHEK.
VERSION HISTORY:
Version 1.00 is the initially released version of this program.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
BUCKFILE 1.00 runs on 100% IBM compatible computers with at
least 512 K of memory, 2 floppy disk drives, and an DOS version 3.0
or above.
PROGRAM FEATURES
BUCKFILE 1.00 is a set of programs, data and want files designed
and written to handle my collection of U.S. currency. It works in a
manner very similar to COINFILE which has been successful in the
shareware market since 1985. Since the programs work in a similar
manner, once you have learned to use one, you are prepared to use
either.
BUCKFILE has many unique features to make the inventorying of your
currency collection easy, fast and accurate. The program was written
in Microsoft Basic 7.1 and compiled for fast response.
In BUCKFILE 1.00 the BUCK.EXE program controls everything. Each
collection has two files - a data file and a want file. For your $1
U.S. notes there is a file with your data (1USNOTE.DAT) and a file with
an image of what bills a full $1 U.S. note collection should contain
(1USNOTE.BWT). The BWT (want) file is used in several ways by the
program. It allows the program to print a want list for your
collection by comparing what you have with what you need. It also
allows an inventory help sheet to be printed which can help you
inventory your collections. The printout utilities allow you to print
out lists of all bills of all collections with descriptions and updated
prices. This is very useful in insuring your collections. Most
insurers will insure only individual pieces, not collections. In order
to have all of your bills insured a full list of your holdings with
current prices and descriptions is necessary and BUCKFILE 1.00 will
provide it. This allows you to keep your collections at home where you
can enjoy them rather than in a bank vault.
Using your bill data and the included want files BUCKFILE 1.00 can
produce up-to-date want lists for any of your currency collections.
BUCKFILE 1.00 comes with most common collection want files already on
disk and the capability of customizing these to meet your exact needs.
It also can write new custom want files under your direction. It is
simple to generate a want list for a collection. The want list prints
the bills you do not have and the bills and their grades which you do
have but which are inferior to the minimal grade you specify for each
collection (fillers).
BUCKFILE 1.00 allows you to produce labels to stick onto your
plastic bill holders using commonly available self adhesive address
labels. This is particularly useful to use just after inventorying a
collection to check your work.
I developed BUCKFILE as a simple system to learn and use.
Installation parameters can be set from the main menu and most printers
can be set up for use with this system (It comes set up for an IBM
proprinter). Through it the control codes for setting up the printer
can be easily installed. The BUCKFILE 1.00 system is copyrighted
(1990-91) by John Duchek of Duchek Computer Services. The registered
BUCKFILE system comes on an MS-DOS readable double-sided double-density
5.25" disk unless otherwise requested (720K, DSDD 3.5" diskettes are
available on request).
The BUCKFILE 1.00 system supports keeping track of the series,
signatures, Bank/seal, serial number, condition, purchase price,
current value and date purchased for each bill in your collection.
All interactions with the various files discussed in this
documentation are automatic and handled by the program. The only
exception is the initial naming of a want file (or a data file if no
corresponding want file is created). Ease of use is the biggest asset
of this system, and it can be used with only occasional reference to
this documentation. The number of keystrokes per entry is a low as I
could possibly make it. When you are entering a lot of data, this is a
feature you will love.

INSTALLATION OF BUCKFILE
BUCKFILE comes with an easy to use installation program which will
install the program correctly on a hard disk or on a 2 floppy disk
system. Floppy disk installations will be limited in the amount data
they can handle due to the storage capacity of the floppy diskettes.
BUCKFILE will not run unless installed correctly using the included
installation program.
HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION
To install BUCKFILE, put the original source disk (or a copy) in
one of your floppy drives. BE SURE to remove the write-protect tab
from floppy since the installation will be interrupted with a
"Permission denied in module INSTALL" error if you do not. Type:
INSTALL<CR> and this screen should appear:

BE CERTAIN that the write-protect tab has been removed from the
source diskette or you will receive a 'Permission denied' error when
this program attempts to install itself.
This program is designed to install BUCKFILE 1.0 on either a 2
floppy disk system or a floppy disk-hard disk system.
You have a Color monitor.
Is this correct (Y/N) ?
Install BUCKFILE on hard disk or floppy diskette (H,F):H
Which drive has the BUCKFILE source diskette (Press <CR> for A:)
Which drive is the Destination diskette (Press <CR> for C:)
Answer each of the above questions. The computer determines your
monitor type and asks you to confirm its conclusion. With some
portables that have a monochrome 16 shade monitor, the computer will
determine that you have a color monitor. In that situation, you should
agree with it. The screen above shows typical hard disk installation
answers. The program will give you a last chance to abort the
installation as shown below:

When the installation is complete the program will inform you and
send you back to the DOS prompt.
FLOPPY DRIVE INSTALLATION
The initial program starts out in the same manner as the hard
drive installation (See screen above). After answering the appropriate
questions above, this screen appears to remind you of what you need for
a floppy installation:

╚═════════════════════════════════════╝
To install BUCKFILE on a floppy disk system, you need to have the
original BUCKFILE disk and two other diskettes.
The first diskette which we will call the 'Program diskette'
should be a formatted diskette with a copy of your PC-DOS or MS-DOS
system. already on it. This allows you to use this disk as a boot up
disk for your computer. You should refer to your PC-DOS or MS-DOS
manual for instructions on making a 'bootable' system diskette. This
diskette will hold the programs and the want files for the BUCKFILE
system.
The second diskette which we will refer to as the 'data' diskette
should be a formatted diskette suitable for use with your drive B:.
This is where Your currency data will be stored.
You may exit the program at this time to set up the floppy
diskettes. Press 'E' to exit or any other key to continue:
If you have your floppies ready, tell it the installation
parameters you want.

USING THE PROGRAM
This section of the documentation is based on the menuing system
used by BUCKFILE. All of the menus branch out from the Main (CDPM)
Menu. Each menu is displayed and its functions discussed in this
section of the documentation. Use the Table of Contents to find the
menu you want quickly.
Note that in the program the letter to press is highlighted on the
screen. In the docs the letter to be pressed is in parentheses. The
symbol <CR> is used to show when to press your 'ENTER' or Carriage
Return key.

The Currency Data Processing Menu (CDPM) is the first menu you
will see when you get into the BUCK.EXE. It is the central menu from
which all of the program functions branch out. This documentation will
walk you through the functions of each of the menu entries, and of the
menus that those entries use.
When the program is started there will be "NO FILE OPEN". This
refers to your existing data files that have already been entered into
the program.
First, you should understand the installation menu and how to
change the parameters in it.
---------- (B)UCKFILE INSTALLATION ----------
By pressing B at the CDPM, you enter the BUCKFILE installation
menu. When you ran the installation of the BUCKFILE program, the
drives and subdirectory settings were changed to your choices. The
printer parameters come set up for an IBM proprinter and may require
adjustment to work properly with your brand of printer. If printouts
from the BUCKFILE program do not look right, you may need to adjust the
printer codes in this section. The data sources section simply lists
where you got your grading and pricing information for your
collections. This information is printed on the insurance company
printouts.

DCS Shareware Offerings:
Duchek Computer Services has the following shareware programs
available. Documentation files are on-disk for all the programs except
TIMER. The written documentation are available ($5.00) in pamphlet
form.
COINFILE
A complete coin inventory system for the coin collector. It
has been designed by a coin collector to inventory his own collections
for insurance purposes. It will keep accurate records of the date,
mint, condition, cost, purchase date, and purchase price for each coin
in each of your collections. Reports can be printed on any of these
items. In addition printouts for insurance purposes, want lists, and
check-off lists for inventorying collections, and stick-on labels for
the coins are provided. Runs on both monochrome and color systems that
are 100% IBM compatible. An automatic installation program is
included. All want files are included on registration (3 in shareware
version). Registration price: $30.00 (add $5.00 for printed
documentation). Canadian want files are available for an additional
$10.00.
BUCKFILE
This companion program to COINFILE is a complete inventory
system for the currency collector. Based on the same philosophy as the
coin program, it allows you to keep separate collections of each
denomination and type so that all of your $1 silver certificates would
be grouped together and your $1 federal reserve notes would comprise
another. It keeps accurate record of the date (as 1975 or 1975A),
signatures, seal/description, serial number, condition, are kept track
of. Want lists and a complete selection of other reports can be
generated. Runs on both monochrome and color systems that are 100% IBM
compatible. An automatic installation program is included. All want
files are included on registration. (3 in shareware version.)
Registration price: $35.00 (add $5.00 for printed documentation).
CALENDAR
This is a simple elegant calendar program which runs from
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. It is an easy to use planning. It displays a
monthly calendar with the events of the week highlighted. I tis
possible to enter the data in a variety of ways including any
combination of months, weeks or even "the 3rd Monday of the month".
You can also use it as an appointment program. Registration price:
$15.00 (add $5.00 for printed documentation).
ADDRESS BOOK
This is an address book and Label Maker for small
organizations. (Up to 2000 names). Each file can subdivide members
into up to 26 categories and print these sub-groups separately.
Intelligent interactions are stressed to minimize the strain of data
input. Zip code sorting and sub-sorting are supported. DCS has used
this program for over 6 years for our mailing label service for local
organizations. Registration price: $25.00 (add $5.00 for printed
documentation).
CHEMPAC 1
A full color extensive on screen periodic chart of the
elements. Pop-up windows display additional information on atomic
radii, origins, and isotopes of each element. Arrow keys move you from
element to element, or simply start the program at the element you are
interested in. PCHART Hg<CR> will start the program on Mercury. Upon
registration you also get Molecular Weight/Percent Composition and
Empirical/Molecular Formula programs, along with a program to edit the
ELEMENT.DAT file in case you find an error or wish a correction in a
piece of data. Requires a color monitor. Registration price $25.00
(add $5.00 for printed documentation.)
CHEMPAC 3
This solvent finding program allows you to search through a
database of solvents to find those with the properties you want.
Searchable properties (maximum and minimum) include boiling and melting
points, dielectric constants, viscosity, partial and whole formulas and
names, refractive index, molecular weight, water solubility and flash
point. A must for laboratory workers! Requires a color monitor.
Registration price $25.00 (add $5.00 for printed documentation).
TIMER
TIMER consists of 2 programs - Timer and Stopwtch. Timer is
a count-down to an alarm. It can count for 24 hours if needed, but I
use it in lab operations to time 15 minutes of stirring or whatever.
The digital countdown on the screen is visible from at least 20 feet
away. Requires a color monitor.
Stopwtch is a stopwatch program accurate to 0.1 seconds and
has 9 lap counters available. Requires a color monitor. Registration
price (for both): $10. No written documentation available (Simple
instructions on disk).
